BOOKFEST 2021- An eTwinning transdisciplinary project

Bookfest 2021 is a short-term transdisciplinary project whose main aim is to identify and integrate knowledge, skills, innovative teaching, learning and assessment techniques transgressing disciplinary practice in order to tackle the educational challenges of a class of Romanian students at the end of the 2020-2021 school year and improve their digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and creativity.

Bookfest 2021 started when the two project coordinators- Mrs. Adelaida Iorga and Mrs. Emilia Frinculeasa- decided to apply and promote the knowledge and experience they had recently gained as a result of their participation as beneficiaries in the national training programme for Romanian teachers CRED - „Curriculum Relevant, Educație Deschisă pentru toți/Relevant Curriculum, Education Open to All".

The eTwinning project allowed the 35 sophomores enrolled in the humanities class at “Radu Vlădescu” Theoretical High School located in Pătârlagele town, Buzău county, Romania, to experience a more holistic vision of education, of the world and of life in general by taking advantage of the opportunity to initiate, conduct and participate in activities meant to actively and collaboratively engage them in their own learning and personal development while self-assessing and evaluating key competences, attitudes and value systems.

The main competences aimed at by this project follow 6 out of the 8 key competences for lifelong learning for European schools: literacy competence, multilingual competence, digital competence, personal, social and learning to learn competence, civic competence, cultural awareness and expression competence.

The main activities of this transdisciplinary project held between May and June 2021 include:
- padlet introductions of the participants’ favourite novels in Romanian and English;
- the first edition of the online competition of power-point presentations entitled “My Favourite Literary Character”, created by the 10th grade students (Teacher’s example requested by the students: https://youtu.be/DJq55PR_jlg);
- reviews of the best/worst book ever read;
- Literary Quotes Illustrated – virtual posters created by groups of students using original photos/drawings;

The project Twinspace is public and English has been used on the eTwinning platform to facilitate understanding and the exchange of pedagogical experience and good practices between European educators. The Twinspace includes a portfolio of photos, videos, presentations, websites and other material evidence from the activities.
