As part of the eTwinning project “Digital Explorers and Promoters of Cultural Heritage”, a dedicated group of 10th-grade students from Liceul Teoretic Radu Vlădescu embarked on an inspiring journey to discover, document, and digitally promote their local cultural heritage. Their mission: to explore the richness of Buzău county and share it with peers across Europe through creative and interactive means.
Guided by their passionate teacher of English, the students participated in a series of educational field trips to some of Buzău's most emblematic cultural and historical landmarks. Among the highlights of their journey were visits to the UNESCO Global Geopark Ținutul Buzăului, the Mud Volcanoes, the Eagle Lake in Siriu Mountains, the Amber Museum in Colți village, and the St. Geoge Cathedral in Nehoiu town. Each site offered the students a deep insight into the area's geological, archaeological, and ethnographic heritage, helping them build a stronger connection to their roots.
Throughout these explorations, the eTwinning project participants gathered information, conducted interviews with local experts, took photographs, and filmed video clips. Back in the classroom, they worked in teams to process their findings and transform them into engaging digital content. They created presentations, infographics, short documentaries, and virtual tours - all designed to educate others while promoting the unique identity of their county.
The eTwinning platform enabled them to collaborate with students from other European countries who were also exploring their own cultural heritage. This international interaction fostered an enriching exchange of ideas and traditions, while also improving the students’ communication and digital skills. Using English as the language of communication, they shared their work through forums, virtual meetings, and a common TwinSpace.
One particularly successful moment was when a team of students narrated three legends linked to a very popular tourist attraction - the Eagle Lake. They skillfully combined creativity with literary, historical and geographical facts to engage and interest a wider audience in this spectacular location: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w4Gm3ktQxrZq4Hq8RBWHRC15unpwvpoQ/view .
The project activity had a profound impact on the students involved. Not only did they develop a deeper appreciation for their local heritage, but they also gained valuable skills in research, teamwork, digital media production, and intercultural communication. Their enthusiasm became contagious, inspiring other students and teachers in our school to learn more about Buzău’s hidden treasures.
Furthermore, their efforts helped raise awareness in the local community. Some of their digital materials were shared on social media, drawing attention to the beauty and importance of preserving the county’s cultural legacy.
In conclusion, the “Digital Explorers and Promoters of Cultural Heritage” project provided an innovative and meaningful way for the students of Buzău county to connect with their past while embracing the tools of the future. By combining education, technology, and cultural pride, these young ambassadors demonstrated how digital literacy and heritage promotion can go hand in hand - leaving a lasting mark both online and in their hearts.
